Tottenham started in full control of the game, dominating possession as Leicester struggled to get the ball off Tottenham. A Leicester counter in the 6th minute almost led to the opener but a good block by Zadorksy from a Pike effort prevented any danger on the Tottenham goal. Tottenham came back at Leicester and should have had the opener in the 9th minute when a good ball by Neville across the face of the goal was missed by Ayane as Leicester was let off the hook.

A minute later Tottenham threatened the Leicester goal again, this time Neville found herself one-on-one with Lambourne but the Leicester keeper was quick off her line to deny Neville. Tottenham continued to pile on the pressure and Clemaron intercepted a poor Lambourne pass out and shot from distance but her effort was straight at the keeper. Leicester countered Tottenham a minute later and should have taken the lead when Gregory centred into the Tottenham box, Zadorksy only managed to get the ball as far as Goodwin who put her effort over the Tottenham bar.

Tottenham came close in the 28th minute when Ayane latched onto an Ale pass, skipping past De Graff but put her effort straight into the hands of Lambourne. Tottenham had claims for a penalty turned away in the 37th minute when Ayane seemed to be pushed over by De Graff in the Leicester box. Tottenham’s best chance came in the 41st minute when some wonderful passing play led to Harrop hitting the outside of Lambourne’s left-hand post with a thunderous shot from distance.

Second Half.

Tottenham started the second half just like they finished the first, by dominating possession and had claims for another penalty turned down in the 48th minute when a Clemaron strike seemed to strike Tierney’s arm but instead Tottenham was awarded a corner. Bartrip’s corner found Naz who twisted and turned Goodwin before she got her cross into the Leicester box, Neville rose above everyone to head past Lambourne to give Tottenham the lead in the 49th minute.

Tottenham continued to pin Leicester back and should have gotten a second in the 51st minute when Williams put in a wonderful ball across the face of the Leicester goal but no one attacked the ball before Leicester got the ball away. Tottenham came close again in the 54th minute when a wonderful long Bartrip ball found Ale but Lambourne was quickly off her line to make the block before Ale was able to get her shot away.

Leicester struggled to get out of their half as Tottenham searched for a second. Bartrip came close to adding a second for Tottenham when she gathered a loose ball and shot from distance but her effort was just over the Leicester bar. Tottenham was almost punished in the 70th minute when Tottenham was caught short at the back from a Leicester counter but Bartrip tracked Baker back and managed to get in a last-second block to deny Leicester. Tottenham was almost punished in the 74th minute when a Baker Ball was put in across the face of the Tottenham goal but no one was there to attack the cross.

Tottenham continued to pile on the pressure in the final 10 minutes and Tottenham once again had claims for a penalty turned down in the 83rd minute when Addison ran at the Leicester defence, leaving behind the De Graff before being bundled over in the box but somehow a foul was given against Addison. Leicester should have seen themselves down to 10 in the 85th minute when Tierney lashed out at Summanen off the ball but was only given a yellow card for her offence.

Tottenham passed the ball around in the final few minutes of the game as they looked to draw Leicester out. Neville came close in the 87th minute when a good run by the full-back led to a shot on her weaker left foot but fortunately for Leicester, Neville could only direct her shot straight into Lambourne’s hands. The 4th official indicated a minimum of 4 minutes added time as Tottenham held on to possession, running the clock down before the game was brought to an end.

Player of the match.

Our final player of the match for the season goes to Ash Neville. Neville caused the Leicester defence and keeper plenty of problems and got Tottenham’s only goal of the match.
